During low ambient air temperatures, FREEKOOL Energy Saving Technology utilizes the outside, low air temperature for chilling the water/glycol mixture in our process and medical chillers. It is also an option on Air Chillers.

When the outside air temperature drops below the set-point of the operation, the FREEKOOL System will automatically shut down the energy intensive compressors and switch to using the ambient air for the cooling process.

With the FREEKOOL option, the refrigeration system is not required to operate in low winter temperatures. This virtually eliminates any low refrigerant, head pressure, or start-up issues associated with wintertime operation. It reduces the number of operating hours on the compressors, eliminates the most difficult operating conditions, extends compressor life and saves energy.

Medical and Process Chillers

When the ambient air drops below the set temperature, a microprocessor controlled 3-way valve opens and allows the chilled liquid to by-pass the existing chiller and run through the free cooling system. This uses a fraction of the power required by the compressors and utilizes the low ambient air temperature to cool the liquid for the process.

FREEKOOL equipped chillers provide effectively free cooling by eliminating cold weather compressor operation. Savings are in the range of 85% of the power cost normally associated with mechanical refrigeration cooling during the coldest months.

FREEKOOL packages can be retrofitted to most existing chilling systems to give all the free cooling benefits.

Air Chillers

one-piece, through the wall refrigeration systems for cold rooms can be equipped with an integrated, fan powered air inlet, that will open when the ambient air temperature is below set-point. (Cooling Air Available). The compressors stop and cooling, fresh air is pumped directly into the cold room. This option is especially energy saving in long term vegetable and potato storages,
